Addiction and Recovery; Gambling

Gambling addictionis not like drug addiction which is physically addicting or is it? It is not physically addiction but some kind of a psychological addiction. It becomes a way to deal with stress. A “high” and there are cravings for gambling. I heard an ex-gambler say that “even though he has been clean for years, every day he gets the desire to gamble.” He said that the gambling addiction can be overcome, but the desire is always there and it is so easy to go back.

Addiction and Reconvery: Gambling

Addiction and Recovery: Negative Emotions

Can  one be addicted to negative emotions?

Lets take a perfectionist where nothing is ever good enough for this person. They will always be upset that things are not good enough. They will be upset with themselves, insecure etc. They will be upset with others because othersnever do good enough. Is it an addiction if they are always upset or sad? How can one recover from such a thing?

Xanax Addiction

Xanax Addiction has become more common as prescription drugs are easier to come by.  Xanax is of the benzodiazepine family and is normally prescribed for anxiety.  If one is not careful, a user can develop a Xanax Addiction unintentionally. Some signals of a Xanax Addiction include cravings.  Constantly talking about getting Xananx, and taking more than the prescribed amount by way of doctor shopping and fake prescriptions.

Addiction and Recovery: Cocaine

Cocaine addiction: I understand a little more why people start with cocaine. People who try cocaine often get addicted to the short-term cocaine effects, particularly feeling that they have increased energy. The quick high keeps users feeling energetic and greater stamina to continue physical activities. Many people try cocaine to increase productivity at work and in other aspects of their lives so that they can work longer and harder. While these results may help at first, increased tolerance and dangerous life choices often result from repeated cocaine use.

The problem is that short term use can lead to cocaine addiction and the long-term effects.

Fighting the Addict Within

Part of addiction recovery really is changing who you are or at least leaving behind the person you have become. This is the real test and battle during addiction recovery. Most addicts have created a personality for themselves and it in turn must either drop the one they have created or discover a more authentic self actualization.

Addiction & Recovery-What’s it all about?

Why do people become addicted? Addiction is so prevalent in our society: Xanax, cocaine, Heroin, sex , pornography, antidepressants of all kinds, coffee, tobacco etc. Why is addiction  so prevalent?

It seems to me that people have some kind of a need to have something over them.  The world was created for us to have G-d over us. On one hand, we accept G-d over us and his commandments. On the other hand, we expect that G-d will help us to complete our mission on earth, each in his own way.  We also expect rewards.

However,  in todays world, there is nothing to replace the G-d relationship. We are on our own. there is no absolute right or wrong in the post modern world.

This creates stress and anxiety, causing us to look for security.  More healthy people look to personal growth, family  and community  for security. Less health people  look to money and status for security. Even less healthy people turn to drugs and perhaps crime for security.

I think that we should re-examine the old fashioned values . We have thrown out the baby with the bathwater.

Addiction and Recovery: Xanax Withdrawal

I found a great video about xanax  addiction and withdrawal. This video applies to all psychiatric drugs and is really cool because the addict here was a salesperson who sold these drugs to doctors. She is an insider and really knows her stuff!

Addiction and Recovery: Xanax

Xanax adddiction. Does anyone know anything about it? My neighbor John, has been treated by a doctor for panic attacks for a couple of years with xanax. Once in a while, the Doctor would up the dosage to make it more effective.  Now things have settled down in John’s life and the Doctor has tappered John off the drug, but he is not the same old guy that I knew before he stopped xanax. Any Ideas?

Addiction and Recovery: Sugar Addiction

Sugar addiction, its almost impossible to stop eating sugar, especially without the support of your family. Another big problem is when you eat out, especially if you eat at the company cafeteria.

This is especially true because all non-whole carbohydrates turn into sugar in your blood very quickly. This gives you a sugar hit and keeps the sugar addiction going.

At this point I can only hope to control sugar addiction , but not to recover completely.
